Things began to go wrong for the Doctor almost even before Martha had closed the TARDIS door behind her. Now he's caught up in a series of events that shouldn't be happening at all. Time is beginning to splinter, and soon the Doctor finds himself travelling between worlds of subtly fragmented probabilities instead of one of absolutes. He must work to put the timeline back the way it should be, but first he must begin to put together exactly what is going wrong.

In present day Brighton, a group of carnival fortune tellers have seen what is to come, and decided that they don't like what they're seeing, and in the near future the sun has failed to rise and now all the lights are beginning to go out. What do these things have in common with the Confederate deep south in the American Civil War, or the grotesque, lupine creatures invading the TARDIS? And what does all of it have to do with the Victorian reformist in charge of a mental asylum in Cardiff?

The Doctor isn't certain yet, but he knows that he has to find out, and find out fast because time itself is coming apart at the seams, and if he doesn't act soon then there's going to be nothing left for him to fix this time.
